Better than … cake

There are many names for this dessert and two versions with the same name. My version is made with pudding, cream cheese and cool whip. Names include, better than sex cake, better than Robert Redford cake, better than anything cake, sin cake, next best thing to Robert Redford cake. It can be made with chocolate pudding, coconut pudding, pistachio pudding, or your favorite flavor pudding

Crust: combine flour, butter and chopped nuts, press in 9×13 pan. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Let cool

Filling: Meanwhile combine cream cheese, powdered sugar,  half of cool whip. Gently smooth onto crust. This is tricky business since the crust is very tender, some crust may pull up in the process. Spread in one direction and avoid going back and forth. I was making a peppermint version for Christmas so I added crushed candy canes to the mix.

Next combine pudding with milk and combine thoroughly pour on cream cheese layer before it sets. Top with cream cheese. Grate chocolate bar with cheese grater sprinkle on cool whip. Cool in fridge for at least 1 hour.  If making ahead of time, do not put on cool whip, cover and put in fridge until serving then top with remaining cool whip and sprinkle with grated chocolate.

  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 cup cool whip divided
  • Chocolate bar
